ACT: Nicki Minaj
TRACK: Anaconda

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN VISUALS + LYRICS:

There is no link between the visuals and the lyrics making this a concept and performance video.

GENRE CHARACTERISTICS:

this links closely with the pop but also the rap genre as nicki minaj seems to straddle both on a regular basis. It has the objectification elements of Laura Mulveys theory in rap but also slightly in pop but also works closely with pop to show the 'empowerment' of women.

INTERTEXTUALITY?

Non that i recognise.

PERFORMANCE, NARRATIVE AND/OR CONCEPT?:

Performance and concept.

PERFORMANCE STYLE:

provocative, with close up and extreme close ups of her bum and chest as this is what she is known for. This also links closely to the genre as Rap is typically male skewed audience therefore has to appeal, but as she is female can also closely link her fans to females as she is shown to be strong and independent.

STAR TREATMENT:

There is heavy focus on nicki minaj however there is also focus on Drake who features at the end of the video who gets a lap dance off nicki minaj.

PACE + ANY VARIATION OF PACE:

There is a variety of pace and a couple of noticeable drops in the song.

SHOT VARIETY + NO. OF SETUPS:

They use a variety of shots and a number of different locations. However they were all filmed as a scene rather than in a natural locations.

DIRECTOR STYLE:

The director works with a number of famous artists collaborating songs using a lot of effects. They all have the same similar themes.
